Surfcasting & Rockfishing has always been a passion for me. I have fished extensively around NZ's best surf beaches and rock ledges and would love to show you the best fishing this country has to offer.

In my earlier days I fished regularly in local and national competitions with good success (a couple of national titles and a few NZ records).

In 1998 I released the Video ' bent rods and screaming reels' which is now on DVD and packed with good surfcasting and rockfishing action and information.

Safety is my top priority I then teach and help you catch fish. I can guarantee you a catch. Depending on conditions, during the summer months, we can grab a few pauas and kinas on the low tide. I am happy to have a cook up on the beach or back at the 4x4.

The price includes bait & refreshments & filleting plus all fishing equipment

Courtesy transport is provided (offroad). I often travel through private property to places the general public don’t often get to go. No risks are taken with off-road tracks in bad weather.

Bring warm clothing, hat, camera, Polaroid’s and sturdy footwear (gumboots and wet weather gear can be provided on request)

If you are bring your own tackle I suggest - Surfcasting - 12, 13 or 14ft rod, 15-25lb mainline, 30 - 60lb traceline, 4-5oz breakaway and upside down pyramid sinkers, 1/o - 3/o hooks, cotton, knife, baitboard, torch, beachspike. Rockfishing - 1 x 6-15kg set for catching kahawai and snapper, 1 x 24/37kg set for catching kingis, 1/o-5/o hooks, 10/o livebait hooks, knife, baitboard, 50lb and 130lb traceline, heavy duty ball bearing swivels, cotton, sabikis, balloons.

Surfcasting Trips and Tuition

Private tuition - 1 on 1

knots, rigs, tackle, casting, spots, techniques - $75/hr

3hr trip - around Wgtn harbour

cost $100pp including bait, filletting and fishing equipment

4hr trip
Area - local south coast (30 min drive).
Target fish - blue moki, blue cod, kahawai, tarakihi, spotty shark.
Cost - $150pp including bait, filletting and fishing equipment

6 hour
Area - extended trip to south coast (30 - 75 minute drive).
Target fish - blue moki, blue cod, kahawai, tarakihi, spotty shark.
Cost - $200pp including bait, filletting and fishing equipment

10hr trip
Area - extended trip to south coast or Wairarapa (60 - 100 minute drive)
Target fish - blue moki, blue cod, kahawai, tarakihi, spotty shark, snapper
Cost - $250pp including bait, filletting and fishinfg equipment

Overnight Trip
We normally fish both the evening and morning turn of light, if you are keen.
Area - extended trip to south coast or Wairarapa (60 - 100 minute drive)
Target fish - blue moki, blue cod, kahawai, tarakihi, spotty shark, snapper. Cost - $350pp includes accommodation, tackle hire, filleting, dinner and breakfast

charters are subject to weather and getting 2-4 people booked

Rockfishing Trips

Prices based on getting 2 - 4 people (but not for 1 on 1 tuition or one day cape runaway trip)

Private tuition - 1 on 1

Rongotai shop or on location - knots, rigs, tackle, bait, spots, techniques - $50/hr

4hr trip
Area - local South coast or Harbour (30 min drive).
Target fish - snapper, kingfish, trevally, kahawai.
Cost - $200pp, including tackle hire, filleting and bait

6 hour
Area - extended trip to South coast or West coast (30 - 75 minute drive)
Target fish - snapper, kingfish, trevally, kahawai.
Cost - $250pp, including tackle hire, filletting and bait

10hr trip
Area - extended trip to South or West coast or Wairarapa (60 - 100 minute drive)
Target fish - snapper, kingfish, trevally, kahawai.
Cost - $300pp, including tackle hire, filletting and bait

Overnight trip
Area - extended trip to South coast or Wairarapa (60 - 100 minute drive)
Target fish - snapper, kingfish, trevally, kahawai.
Cost - $400pp includes accommodation, complimentary offroad transport, dinner and breakfast, tackle hire and bait.

3 day trip LBG (Land Based Gamefishing)
Area - Cape Runaway, Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Target fish - snapper, kingfish, trevally, kahawai, tuna, sharks, billfish.
Cost - $2500pp including accommodation, complimantary transport offroad, tackle, meals and bait.

One day LBG trip at Cape Runaway $600 (1 person), $450pp (2 people), $350pp (3 people) includes tackle hire, bait, lunch, complimentary offroad transport and filletting
